Security Awareness Training
103 - Physical Security
Information Security doesn't just mean Computer Security. Many information security
problems start with a breach of physical security such as an unlocked door, material that
hasn't been destroyed securely, or a stolen computer. And the problems aren't limited to
malicious acts - an accident such as a fire could result in a temporary loss of service
availability, or the permanent loss of critical information.
Despite there being relatively simple precautions that would miminize or even eliminate
most of these risks, business users can become very complacent about physical security
with disasterous results.
"Physical Security" is designed to heighten students' awareness of physical security, and
to remind students about the steps that they can take to support their organization's
security policies. The course discusses:
- Why physical security is important.
- Protecting information:
- When in storage.
- Win transit from place to place.
- By destroying it securely. - Securing information against malicious acts.
- Securing information against accidents.
- Special cases such as home office users or mobile computing.
